Congress Challenges Modi: Is Mumbai Losing Out to Gujarat?

The Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing Gujarat over Mumbai regarding major projects, alleging favoritism towards the Adani Group in the Dharavi redevelopment. With upcoming elections in Maharashtra, Congress raised questions on BJP's governance, Mumbai's air pollution, and neglected railway infrastructure.

The Congress has launched a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why Mumbai is being overshadowed by Gujarat in securing major projects. The accusations come as Modi visits Mumbai ahead of state elections, with Congress alleging that this favoritism benefits the Adani Group, especially in the contentious Dharavi redevelopment project.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, criticized BJP's delay in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, alleging it undermines democratic principles. Ramesh accused BJP of hesitating over fears of an electoral defeat that could impact its image. Ramesh further alleged inappropriate allocation of civic body's resources to BJP's advantage.

Focusing on the Adani-led Dharavi project, Ramesh accused the Modi government of a land grab, citing unfavorable terms for Dharavi residents and a significant transfer of development rights to Adani. With the elections nearing and projects being expedited in Dharavi, Congress contends that Mumbai's economic prospects are unjustly transferred to Gujarat. Ramesh also pointed out issues like air pollution, overcrowded local trains, and rail neglect in the context of Maharashtra's impending elections.
