Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing critique of the Congress party during a rally in Panvel, Maharashtra, ahead of the state's upcoming assembly elections. Modi accused Congress of profiting from poverty while perpetuating their anti-poverty rhetoric.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Modi claimed that despite the Congress's 'Garibi Hatao' slogan, they have failed to uplift the country's impoverished. He alleged that their strategies revolved around vote bank politics, further exacerbating economic disparities among citizens.
Contrasting his administration's achievements, Modi emphasized that his government successfully lifted 25 crore people out of poverty over the last decade. He also asserted the need for good governance ('suraj') alongside the historical ideal of self-rule ('swaraj').
