In a bold display of democratic spirit, Jharkhand voters emerged in large numbers to cast their ballots, unfazed by Maoist threats and boycott calls. The voter turnout exceeded previous records, reaching 64.86% in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, the Election Commission reported.
Polling took place in 43 of the 81 assembly seats during the first phase, with the remainder set for November 20. The elections were marked by a celebratory atmosphere, especially in tribal districts, showcasing the deep-rooted commitment to democracy despite extremist intimidation.
Authorities ensured a vigilant electoral process; in Rabanga village, voting was momentarily delayed as police neutralized a security threat. Nonetheless, this did not deter voters from participating, symbolizing resilience against attempts to undermine the electoral process.
