The Supreme Court's recent verdict has halted the controversial 'bulldozer action', a move widely criticized for its heavy-handed approach. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, during an election gathering on Wednesday, acknowledged the court's decision as a major development against the Yogi Adityanath government's demolition policies.
The Uttar Pradesh government distanced itself from the case, known as 'Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind vs. North Delhi Municipal Corporation and others', stating the SC's ruling will combat organized crime. Yadav, however, argued that demolitions predominantly targeted the homes of the state's impoverished, a tactic he links to the Samajwadi Party's electoral losses.
Highlighting the Supreme Court's new guidelines, Yadav noted, "The bulldozer has been parked forever." The party leader criticized the BJP for not providing employment and for inflation, accusing them of harassment, particularly towards students. He also took issue with divisive rhetoric used by the state leadership.
