Unprecedented Legal Pause in Trump's Conviction Amid Presidential Victory
A New York judge has paused action on President-elect Donald Trump's conviction related to hush money payments, following the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity. Legal proceedings are reconsidered due to Trump's recent election win. A $130,000 payment to an adult film star remains central to the case.
A New York state judge has temporarily halted further proceedings on the conviction of President-elect Donald Trump. The conviction, tied to hush money paid to a porn star, is under review due to potential immunity from prosecution as per a recent Supreme Court ruling.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office concurred with the defense's request for a pause to assess the implications of Trump's upcoming presidential duties. Back in May, Trump marked history as the first U.S. president found guilty of a crime, with a jury convicting him of 34 felony counts linked to business records alteration.
The anticipated sentencing, scheduled for Nov. 26, is expected to be deferred owing to Trump's electoral success. Central to the case is the $130,000 payment by Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to Stormy Daniels to silence allegations of an affair. Trump's legal team argues the need for case dismissal based on presidential immunity.
