Historic Victory: Navin Ramgoolam's ADC Wins Mauritius Election with Landslide
In the recent general election, Mauritius' opposition Alliance du Changement (ADC) led by Navin Ramgoolam secured a sweeping victory with 62.6% of the votes. Ramgoolam, now a four-time prime minister, plans to address national issues including the cost of living and corruption.
In a landmark victory, the opposition Alliance du Changement (ADC) coalition of Mauritius, spearheaded by veteran politician Navin Ramgoolam, has clinched 62.6% of the votes in the general election, the election commission announced on Tuesday.
The ADC secured 60 out of 62 National Assembly seats, granting Ramgoolam, a former three-time premier, his fourth term as the nation's prime minister. Promising reforms, Ramgoolam intends to dismantle the nation's surveillance system, vowing to reduce the cost of living and tackle rampant nepotism and corruption.
Previously overseeing 7.0% economic growth, outgoing Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth's tenure was marred by a cost of living crisis and corruption claims. Jugnauth's Alliance Lepep managed just 27.8% of the vote, while the Organisation du Peuple de Rodrigues won 50% on Rodrigues Island.
