Controversy Erupts Over Ankaragucu's Ex-President Sentencing

In a controversial decision, Turkish football club Ankaragucu has expressed dissatisfaction over the sentencing of their former president, Faruk Koca. Koca was sentenced to more than three years in prison for assaulting a referee last year, a move that the club argues was swayed by "misleading public perception."
Following a draw with Rizespor in December 2023, Koca punched the referee, Halil Umut Meler, causing serious injury. He received a sentence of three years and seven months, with additional suspended sentences for threats and violence in sports.
While Koca, along with three other defendants, plans to appeal, Ankaragucu remain supportive of him, lauding his contributions and describing the legal decision as disproportionate, despite his responsible resignation post-incident.
