In a significant development during the Karnataka by-polls, nearly three lakh litres of liquor valued at Rs 29 crore have been seized from the Channapatna Assembly segment. The elections also involve Shiggaon and Sandur, with heightened attention on the Channapatna contest.
In Channapatna, Union Minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's son, Nikhil, faces a tough challenge from Congress heavyweight C P Yogeeshwara in a closely watched battle. Law enforcement agencies have made considerable seizures, including over 300 litres of liquor from Shiggaon and 2,926 litres from Sandur, adding to Channapatna's significant haul.
With more than seven lakh eligible voters across the three constituencies, elections are crucial following the vacancies left by Congress, BJP, and JD(S) representatives after their election to the Lok Sabha. Officers report a total seizure value of Rs 33.33 crore, including 8.2 kgs of narcotics from Shiggaon.
