Authorities in Maharashtra's Thane district are cracking down on illegal cash flows ahead of the state assembly elections. On Monday night, a raid on a bungalow in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, yielded a haul of Rs 2.5 crore, according to police sources.
A subsequent operation the same day resulted in the discovery of Rs 1.2 crore in a cash van traveling between Bhiwandi and Kalyan. Lacking adequate documentation, the money was seized by officials from the flying squad.
The crackdown comes as November's crucial elections loom, with prominent figures such as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik in the fray. Poll authorities emphasize that this is part of a broader strategy to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
