Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has leveled serious accusations against Justice Michael D'Cunha, who is investigating the procurement of PPE kits by the former BJP-led administration in Karnataka during the 2020 Covid pandemic. Joshi claimed that D'Cunha was acting as an agent, stating, 'Justice Michael D'Cunha, you are a judge, not an agent.'

The commission led by D'Cunha has suggested prosecuting former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Health Minister B Sriramulu over the purchase of 3 lakh PPE kits from Chinese companies. Speaking at a rally for BJP candidate Bharat Bommai, Joshi questioned the timing of the interim report's release, implying it was politically motivated to sway voters.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao defended Justice D'Cunha, arguing that Joshi's comments were not only defamatory but also a violation of law. Rao urged the commission to file a complaint against Joshi's statements, highlighting the integrity and honesty of Justice D'Cunha in his public service.
