Mahendra Singh Mewar, a former BJP Member of Parliament and a scion of the Mewar royal family, passed away at a private hospital in Udaipur on Sunday at the age of 83, according to family sources.
Mewar, a descendant of the 16th-century Rajput king Maharana Pratap, had been receiving treatment for several days before his demise. His death prompted condolences from political figures across Rajasthan.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Chittorgarh MP CP Joshi expressed their sorrow over Mewar's passing, describing it as a significant loss. Mewar's political journey included election to the Lok Sabha from the Chittorgarh seat in 1989.
