On National Unity Day, the Bharatiya Janata Party's national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, launched a scathing attack against the opposition, accusing them of undermining the legacy of Sardar Patel. This came in response to the opposition's reaction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Kevadia, Gujarat, where he advocated the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative.

Poonawalla alleged that the opposition, historically dismissive of Sardar Patel's contributions, is perpetuating divisive politics reminiscent of British rule. He charged them with creating chaos and division within the country, opposing the unity message championed by Patel and reiterated by PM Modi.

Emphasizing the government's commitment to national unity, PM Modi highlighted efforts toward achieving simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the idea as impractical, citing the need for widespread consensus in parliament before such reforms could be enacted.
