On Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir's political leaders voiced strong opposition to the celebration of the Union Territory's foundation day, calling it a 'black day.' Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed concerns about the abolishment of the region's special privileges since its reconstitution.
Similarly, J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra echoed these sentiments, criticizing the administration's disregard for the people's sentiments. Several mainstream political parties in the valley, including the National Conference and People's Conference, abstained from the event.
The foundation day was marked with open dissent, as leaders like Karra argued that participating in such events amounts to celebrating a 'mockery of the Constitutional set-up.' Both Mehbooba Mufti and Karra reaffirmed their commitment to fight for the restoration of rights and privileges previously enjoyed by the region.
