Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, has strongly rebutted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticisms regarding the non-implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. Kejriwal accused Modi of politicizing public health issues, stating that such actions are inappropriate, especially when the matter concerns the health of citizens.
The remarks from Kejriwal followed PM Modi's accusations that the Delhi and West Bengal governments have neglected implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme due to 'political interests.' Notably, these states are among the few where the scheme has not been rolled out.
Kejriwal countered by emphasizing the successes of Delhi's healthcare model, which offers cost-free treatment to residents—ranging from minor expenses to costly procedures. He alleged that the Ayushman Bharat Yojana has encountered several irregularities, urging PM Modi to learn from Delhi's approach. Meanwhile, PM Modi contended that state-level political barriers obstructed the scheme's implementation, apologizing to affected senior citizens.
