The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of violating the model code of conduct during his recent West Bengal visit. This accusation arises from Shah's political remarks at an official function, inciting the TMC to request the Election Commission to take action against him.
During his visit, Shah inaugurated various facilities, including an integrated check post at Petrapole in North 24 Parganas. The TMC alleges these remarks, advocating for political change in 2026, had no relevance to the event and were merely political posturing.
The TMC has demanded a show-cause notice for Shah and seeks directives to prevent similar violations by BJP leaders as bypolls approach. Six constituencies in the state will hold by-elections on November 1 due to MLA resignations following the Lok Sabha elections.
