In a significant diplomatic move, Ingrid Larson, a high-ranking U.S. diplomat tasked with managing Taiwan-U.S. relations, has commenced a visit to Taipei. This follows recent controversial comments from Donald Trump aimed at Taiwan's crucial chip sector and defense spending.
The American Institute in Taiwan confirmed that Larson's visit, from October 28 to November 1, is part of ongoing U.S. efforts to bolster a robust partnership with Taiwan, highlighting collaboration on regional security and mutual economic interests.
Despite Trump's remarks, which rattled markets with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's shares dipping, Taiwanese officials, including the Premier Cho Jung-tai, have sought to reassure that U.S.-Taiwan ties remain strong and bipartisan-driven.
