In a fresh political move, Congress declared Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as its nominee for the upcoming by-election in the Shiggaon segment, scheduled for November 13. The need for the by-election arose when Basavaraj Bommai vacated the seat due to his election to the Lok Sabha.
Pathan, previously defeated by the senior Bommai in the 2023 Assembly elections, faces a challenging contest against Bharath, Bommai's son, who represents the BJP. The deadline for filing nominations is set for October 25, with October 30 as the final date to withdraw candidacy.
Congress's decision-making for the Shiggaon candidacy saw debates over whether to field a Muslim or Panchamasali Lingayat candidate. The party also announced candidates C P Yogeeshwara and E Annapurna for the Channapatna and Sandur by-elections, respectively.
