During Thursday's closing session of the BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the bloc's role as a counterbalance to Western influences. The three-day conference in Kazan emphasized deepened financial cooperation, regional conflict resolution, and expanded membership including Iran, Egypt, and more.
Despite the US's attempts to isolate Russia over its actions in Ukraine, the summit, featuring leaders from 36 countries, was heralded as Russia's 'largest foreign policy event.' Speaking at the BRICS Plus session, Putin criticized Western sanctions and protectionism, noting their impact on creating and exacerbating conflicts.
China and Brazil proposed a peace plan for Ukraine, though it's been dismissed by Ukraine. The summit concluded with a call for enhanced financial collaboration within BRICS and highlighted the bloc's challenge to Western hegemony, with state media stressing the strength of this 'global majority.'
