The Central Election Committee of the Congress convened on Monday to determine candidates for the approaching Maharashtra Assembly elections. The session, held at the AICC headquarters, included prominent figures such as Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting, originally scheduled for Sunday, was deferred due to reasons including the celebration of Karwa Chauth and simultaneous preparatory meetings for the Jharkhand polls. Consensus has reportedly been reached on 210 of the 288 assembly seats, according to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, marking a notable milestone in alliance discussions.
Raut highlighted the shared objective of overcoming the ruling alliance and stated, "It is a significant achievement. We aim to contest polls as a joint force and we will defeat the forces looting Maharashtra." The elections will occur on November 20, with vote counting concluded by November 23.
