In a move set to energize the political landscape, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is poised to file her nomination papers for Wayanad's parliamentary bypolls on October 23. According to party insiders, her brother Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will accompany her, signaling strong family backing.
Priyanka's candidacy, recently confirmed by the Congress on October 15, follows vigorous preparations, including a roadshow with Rahul before the official nomination event. The decision emerges as voters in Kerala's Wayanad prepare for the polls on November 13, alongside assembly bye-elections across 47 seats in 15 states.
The Wayanad seat was left vacant by Rahul Gandhi after his election from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh earlier this year. Observers note that Priyanka's victory would mark her as the third Gandhi family member in the current Parliament, joining her brother Rahul and mother Sonia, an active Rajya Sabha member.
