In a troubling development, the United Nations peacekeeping headquarters in southern Lebanon was hit by explosions on Friday. This follows a recent strike by Israeli forces in the same location. Two members of the UN peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, sustained injuries in the incident.
The blasts occurred near an observation tower at the headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon. Following the explosions, one peacekeeper was taken to a hospital in Tyre while another received treatment onsite. The origin of the explosions has not yet been determined, according to UNIFIL.
In related activities, an Israeli army bulldozer breached the perimeter of another UNIFIL position in the region, alongside movements by Israeli tanks. This situation has prompted the deployment of additional peacekeepers to reinforce the affected positions.
