Air Vice Marshal Vikas Sharma has taken command of the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh headquarters, the defence spokesperson announced on Wednesday. This new role marks another significant milestone in Sharma's distinguished career with the Indian Air Force, where he has served since being commissioned in June 1990.

With a career spanning 33 years, Sharma boasts a resume rich with key roles. Notably, he has commanded a fighter squadron, led an operational frontline fighter base in the eastern sector, and held the post of senior officer in charge of administration at the Southern Air Command. In addition to his operational roles, Sharma served as India's defence attaché to Thailand.

Sharma, who has been recognized for his exemplary service with the Vayu Sena Medal in 2011, is an alumnus of the National Defence College in New Delhi, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and the College of Air Warfare in Secunderabad.
