CPI(M) stalwart M Y Tarigami has triumphed yet again, clinching the Kulgam Assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth time. His latest victory saw him defeating Sayar Ahmad Reshi, a first-time contestant and former head of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), by a substantial margin of over 7,800 votes.
Garnering a total of 33,634 votes, Tarigami secured a lead of 7,838 votes over Reshi, who managed to accumulate 25,796 votes in his debut electoral battle. This consistent success underscores Tarigami's enduring influence in the region, a legacy that spans back to 1996.
With each electoral cycle, Tarigami reinforces his political stronghold, making him a formidable figure in Kulgam's political landscape.
