In a major political development, the Congress and National Conference pre-poll alliance appears poised for victory in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, as per the latest data from the Election Commission. The alliance has reportedly crossed the halfway mark, with JKNC clinching three seats and leading in 39, while Congress leads in six.

Amid the upbeat mood, jubilant scenes unfolded in Srinagar on Tuesday with JNKC workers celebrating enthusiastically. Congratulatory gestures included the distribution of Kashmiri apples by Trichy Congress President L Rex and fireworks at the party office led by J-K Congress Chief Tariq Hameed Karra.

As the results unfold, they will determine the political futures of several prominent leaders, including former ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Baig. Former JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed optimism, cautioning against any manipulative actions by the BJP, underscoring the need for transparent election outcomes. Concurrently, PDP candidate Waheed Ur Rehman Para highlighted the impending challenges once the mandates are revealed, emphasizing the fight for Article 370 restoration. Meanwhile, Iltija Mehbooba Mufti, trailing in her contest, graciously accepted her electoral defeat.
