The Supreme Court has taken a decisive step, forming an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe claims surrounding the use of animal fat in the Tirupati laddu prasadam. The decision follows public outcry after adulteration allegations surfaced, prompting concerns among Hindu devotees globally.
The bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan underscored the need for an unbiased investigation to ensure public trust and avoid any politicization of the matter. The newly constituted SIT will include two CBI officers, two state police officers, and a senior Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) official, replacing the state government's SIT.
The apex court clarified its stance, stating that the new SIT is not a reflection on the existing members' credibility but rather a step to ensure a non-partisan inquiry. This move seeks to restore faith in the investigative process and address concerns among devotees worldwide.
