The US is deploying thousands more troops to the Middle East as tensions heat up, with the Pentagon confirming the move on Monday. This increase aims to bolster security and support Israel if needed, following recent raids by Israel into Lebanon.

The deployments will bring the total number of US troops in the region to 43,000. According to Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, the increase will involve multiple fighter jet and attack aircraft squadrons, as well as additional personnel to support these forces.

This decision comes after heightened conflict in the region, including the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also ordered an extension of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group's presence in the area and dispatched a second carrier, the USS Harry S Truman, to head to the Mediterranean Sea.
