The Assam BJP has made significant progress in its membership drive, enrolling 53 lakh people as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. The drive is primarily conducted online, with physical form-filling slated for a later stage.
During a meeting at the state BJP headquarters, Sarma revealed that the Assam BJP has achieved 85% of its membership target. The goal is to enroll at least 75% of the total votes polled by the party in this year's Lok Sabha elections. The party had received over 63.25 lakh votes and aims to enroll 40,000 members in each of the 126 assembly constituencies.
Sarma highlighted that the enrolment has been completed in 71 constituencies, with expectations to surpass the 40,000 mark in over 90 constituencies by October 9. Dibrugarh district leads the enrolment figures, while Jalukbari is the only constituency to cross 1 lakh members. The enrolment has been slower in Kokrajhar, Dhubri, and parts of Diphu due to mobile network issues. The physical membership drive will start after the end of the online exercise on October 9 in areas with low network coverage.
