Lt Governor V K Saxena has criticized the Delhi government for delaying the establishment of the 'Board of Visitors' for city jails, despite a High Court directive. The criticism was revealed by Raj Niwas officials on Monday.
The LG office has returned a related file to the Delhi government, requesting corrections to a notification regarding the board's appointment. Saxena emphasized that the board's role in providing independent feedback on jail conditions, such as health, hygiene, and security, is crucial.
The High Court had ordered the creation of the board within 12 weeks in September 2019, but the LG's note pointed out that it has taken four years for the file to reach his desk for approval. He highlighted the government's lack of seriousness and the discrepancies in the notification that contradict the Delhi Prison Rules, 2018.
