The opposition Congress staged protests across Tripura on Monday, demanding significant financial aid for the flood-affected populace by submitting deputations to the offices of Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs).

The flood that hit the state in August has killed thirty-eight people and left over 1 lakh homeless, prompting thousands of Congress workers to participate in the demonstrations held in all 21 sub-divisions of the state.

Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman criticized the state government for failing to assist the impoverished and farmers impacted by the flood. He cited extensive damage to both public infrastructure and private properties and argued that insufficient funds from the Centre have exacerbated the financial distress of flood survivors.

Furthermore, Roy Barman alleged that nine Congress workers were attacked by BJP supporters at Mohanpur in West Tripura district. Despite these challenges, he assured continuous support for the affected people.

While the Centre has allocated Rs 40 crore for disaster mitigation, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a Rs 564-crore package for rebuilding Tripura. State BJP spokesperson Nebendu Bhattacharjee dismissed Congress's claims, asserting that the government is fulfilling its responsibilities in aiding the flood-hit citizens, and accused Congress of using the program for political survival.
