U.S. President Joe Biden has committed more than $8 billion in military aid to Ukraine, aiming to assist in the ongoing conflict against Russian forces. The announcement came during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The substantial aid package includes precision-guided Joint Standoff Weapons, enhancing Ukraine's ability to strike targets up to 81 miles away, and expanded training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots. Biden's decision has garnered bipartisan support but also sparked criticism from Republican figures, notably Donald Trump.
Biden emphasized that supporting Ukraine remains a U.S. priority. With fiscal year-end approaching, most of the aid, totaling $5.5 billion, is designated for immediate allocation. The remaining $2.4 billion falls under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Zelenskiy expressed gratitude for the aid, pledging to use it efficiently and transparently.
