Political Turmoil in Netanyahu's Coalition: Cease-Fire Controversy
Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of the Jewish Power party and a far-right partner in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, has threatened to quit the coalition if a permanent cease-fire is established with Hezbollah. His departure would jeopardize Netanyahu's parliamentary majority.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of the Jewish Power party and a key far-right partner in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, is threatening to quit the government if a permanent cease-fire deal with Hezbollah is reached. This ultimatum underscores the internal discord within Netanyahu's hard-line administration amid international attempts at achieving a cease-fire.
Ben-Gvir has made it clear that his party will withdraw its support if the temporary cease-fire transitions into a permanent arrangement. 'If a temporary cease-fire becomes permanent, we will resign from the government,' he declared.
The potential exit of Ben-Gvir and his party could strip Netanyahu of his parliamentary majority, risking the collapse of his government. However, opposition leaders have indicated they might support a cease-fire deal, mitigating some of the potential political fallout.
