Republican leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives national security committees demanded on Wednesday that Democratic President Joe Biden's administration release an unclassified version of its report on the strategy for the war in Ukraine.

The demand came a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was set to visit the U.S. Capitol to meet with lawmakers. Since Russia's full-scale invasion 2-1/2 years ago, Congress has approved nearly $175 billion in aid and military assistance for Ukraine and its allies. Many lawmakers anticipate the need for further funding approvals to assist the Kyiv government within the next few months.

According to a Sept. 9 report by Reuters, the administration sent the report to Congress months after a June deadline outlined in a multibillion-dollar spending bill passed in April. The bill required a detailed strategy for Ukraine by early June, and while the report was classified, lawmakers have been advocating for a public version. A possible funding vote early next year underscores the urgency to make the report accessible to the public.
