A BJP MLA's candid admission that the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana was a calculated move to secure women's votes has ignited a political controversy in Maharashtra.
The Congress swiftly capitalized on Tekchand Sawarkar's comment, arguing it exposed the Eknath Shinde-led government's ulterior motives behind the scheme. Addressing a public gathering, Sawarkar openly described the scheme as a 'jugaad' (ploy) to ensure women's electoral support for BJP.
Under this scheme, women aged 21-65 will receive Rs 1,500 monthly, with an annual family income cap of Rs 2.5 lakh. The program, expected to cost the state exchequer Rs 46,000 crore annually, has now come under scrutiny as elections approach.
