Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy addressed the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, emphasizing that the war between Russia and Ukraine cannot be resolved solely through negotiations. He stressed the necessity of compelling Russia to accept peace, drawing attention to his 'victory plan' and seeking Western support.
Zelenskiy noted that the war would eventually end, but not merely because of fatigue or any concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He highlighted the importance of taking concrete actions instead of relying on talks, and expressed gratitude to the nations supporting Ukraine.
Zelenskiy argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin had violated numerous international norms and urged the international community to force Russia into peace. His comments were met with rejection from Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, while U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned attacks on civilians and called for an immediate stop to violence.
