Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has firmly dismissed allegations from former Prime Minister Imran Khan, suggesting the government is amending the constitution to keep him in prison. Asif stated that the long list of crimes committed by Khan is sufficient to justify his imprisonment.
Khan, the 71-year-old founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August last year, following his conviction in numerous cases. On Monday, Khan rejected anticipated constitutional changes, claiming they were a strategy to control the judiciary and keep him behind bars.
Asif responded that constitutional amendments are not necessary to address Khan's offences and accused Khan of causing chaos during his tenure. He also criticized the May 9 violence linked to Khan's supporters. While the coalition government struggles to pass the amendments, Asif remains optimistic, stating that the proposed changes aim to balance power among institutions, not just ensure accountability.
