Government Initiates Peace Talks and Border Fencing in Manipur
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced measures to ensure peace between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur. The government has begun fencing the Myanmar border to curb infiltration and scrapped the Free Movement Regime. Ethnic violence continues in the state since May 2022.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that discussions are ongoing with both the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur to establish lasting peace. Additionally, the government has started fencing the India-Myanmar border to prevent infiltration.
Addressing the press on the achievements of Modi's third term, Shah mentioned that except for three days of violence last week, the overall situation in Manipur has remained calm. Efforts are underway to restore peace in the troubled Northeastern state.
The minister revealed that 30 km of the international border with Myanmar has been fenced, and funds have been approved for a total of 1,500 km. The Free Movement Regime with Myanmar has been cancelled to control cross-border movement; now, entry will require a visa.
