Two teenage boys from Mizoram returned home after being held captive by militants in Myanmar's Chin state for nearly a week, according to an Assam Rifles officer on Sunday.
The boys, aged 16 and 15, were reportedly abducted by the Chin Defence Force (CDF) on September 1 from Rih Dil Lake, a tourist spot near the Indian border. They were stopped and beaten due to a prior scuffle with locals, the officer stated. Three of their friends managed to escape.
The captives were tortured, including having their heads shaved and cigarette burns inflicted on their bodies. One boy even had his front teeth extracted. They were released by the CDF on September 6. The incident has increased local tensions as residents recall past times when they sheltered Chin refugees.
