During the Kalyana Karnataka Utsav held on Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah honored Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by garlanding his statue at SVP Chowk in Kalaburagi. The ceremony also marked the 10th anniversary of granting special status to Kalyana Karnataka under Article 371(J). Addressing the event at Police Parade Ground, the CM highlighted the importance of the occasion and extended heartfelt greetings to all attendees.

Siddaramaiah noted that this year's good rainfall has benefited farmers in the region. Reflecting on history, he mentioned that while India gained independence in 1947, the districts of Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Raichur—under Nizam rule—experienced freedom a year later, thanks to the sacrifices of many freedom fighters, Jawaharlal Nehru's vision, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's strength. He paid tribute to those who fought for the liberation of Kalyana Karnataka and emphasized the region's contributions to social justice and equality.

The CM further stressed the significance of movements like Mysore Chalo and the Hyderabad liberation movement as expressions of people's democratic aspirations. He praised the Sharana movement led by Basavanna for uniting people and promoting equality and social change. Siddaramaiah also remembered leaders like Raja Venkatappa Naik, who resisted British rule, underscoring Kalyana Karnataka's pivotal role in the freedom struggle. He urged the people of Karnataka to remember the region's historical battles, including the struggle for Article 371(J).
