The Congress Party has called for strict action against the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate following an 'unacceptable comment' targeting Rahul Gandhi on the magistrate's official X handle. The controversy erupted after Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, denounced the post, attributing it to increasing politicization of India's bureaucratic system.
District Magistrate Manish Verma claimed that anti-social elements had misused his account to make the offensive comment. An FIR was registered immediately and the comment is now under investigation by the cyber cell. A copy of the FIR was also shared on the handle, aiming to quell the uproar.
Congress spokespersons linked the incident to broader efforts to undermine the civil service. They criticized the use of official channels for political remarks, demanding accountability. The post, which was soon deleted, has sparked wider discussions on the political neutrality of non-elected officials under current administration.
