Tributes Pour in for Late CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury

CPI(M) Politburo members and senior leaders gathered at the party headquarters on Friday to pay tributes to veteran leader Sitaram Yechury, who passed away following a prolonged illness. His body was later transported to Jawaharlal Nehru University in the evening.
The CPI(M) general secretary died on Thursday at a hospital, succumbing to a critical lung infection. Hospitalized since August 19, the 72-year-old had been on respiratory support at AIIMS, Delhi. Yechury's political journey began with the Students' Federation of India at JNU, where he was elected the students' union president three times starting in 1977.
DMK leader A Raja also visited AKG Bhawan to pay his respects, recalling Yechury's unwavering faith in Marxism, democracy, and secularism. CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah called Yechury's death a significant loss for the Communist movement. Yechury is survived by his wife Seema Chishti and three children, having previously lost a son to COVID-19 in 2021. He was earlier married to Indrani Mazumdar.
