The BJP on Friday called for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's immediate resignation, arguing that his conditional bail granted by the Supreme Court in a corruption case undermines his position. The BJP's national spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, described Kejriwal as 'outright dishonest' and emphasized that he remains an accused in the excise policy 'scam'.
During a press conference at the party headquarters, Bhatia noted that the top court's decision to grant bail symbolizes a lack of moral standing on Kejriwal's part, even as he mocked Kejriwal for becoming 'a chief minister on bail from a chief minister in jail'. The BJP believes that Kejriwal's ongoing legal troubles diminish his influence and reputation, making his role as chief minister untenable.
Highlighting that neither the charges against Kejriwal have been quashed nor has he been acquitted, the BJP pressured Kejriwal to step down, warning that public sentiment will eventually lead to his resignation. Bhatia also contrasted Kejriwal's situation with that of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had offered to resign under similar circumstances.
