Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday underscored the significance of the three-tier panchayat system as a cornerstone for state development. He stated, 'Three-tier panchayat is the main pillar or foundation of a state's development. Whenever any schemes from our central or state government are implemented, the Panchayat plays a crucial role. The Panchayat is our main base, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi always stresses its importance.'

CM Saha made these remarks during the oath-taking ceremony of new members of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad at Town Hall, Agartala. He highlighted his recent visit to Delhi, where he discussed the Amar Sarkar web portal based on the Panchayat system with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. 'Every Thursday, Panchayat members and officials visit various areas to note down issues, and every Monday, a meeting is held to upload these issues online for resolution within a specific time frame,' added Saha, emphasizing the importance and success of this initiative. He also mentioned that Tripura boasts 116 Zila Parishads, 423 Panchayat Samitis, and 6,370 Gram Panchayats, all contributing to a transparent administration.

Saha urged members to prioritize development and transparency, referencing the 'Vocal for Local' campaign. He noted that in 2018, Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad secured the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar and received significant financial awards, with other Panchayats also receiving commendations in subsequent years. He reiterated that after taking their oaths, the new members would undergo a training programme. Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, MLAs Kishore Barman and Mina Rani Sarkar, and other dignitaries attended the event. Director of the Panchayat Department, Prasoon Dey, administered the oath of office and secrecy. (ANI)
