Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attendance at the Ganpati Puja held at the residence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has sparked a major controversy, with opposition leaders and several Supreme Court lawyers voicing strong objections. They argue that the event casts doubts on the separation of powers between the executive and the judiciary.

In a video, CJI Chandrachud and his wife Kalpana Das were seen welcoming Modi to their home, which has triggered sharp reactions. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut noted that such meetings could cause speculation about the relationship between political leaders and guardians of the Constitution.

BJP leaders, however, have hit back, calling the opposition's reactions reckless and baseless. BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh stressed that the puja was a religious event and not a social gathering, accusing critics of undermining the judiciary's integrity. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora also condemned the criticism, stating that it sets a dangerous precedent and damages the judiciary's credibility.
