Russia Urged to Adopt Aggressive Nuclear Stance Amid Ukraine Conflict
Sergei Karaganov, a prominent Russian foreign policy hawk, has called for Russia to adopt a more assertive nuclear posture against countries supporting NATO in Ukraine. He argues that Russia must clearly state its willingness to use nuclear weapons to ensure its security and deter enemies. Karaganov's views are closely watched but do not represent official policy.
Sergei Karaganov, an influential foreign policy hawk, has urged Russia to adopt a more aggressive nuclear stance against nations supporting NATO's involvement in Ukraine. Karaganov told Kommersant newspaper that Moscow could execute a limited nuclear strike on a NATO country without provoking an all-out nuclear conflict.
He criticized the United States for allegedly lying about guaranteeing nuclear protection to its allies. The primary goal of Russia's nuclear doctrine, he said, should be to make current and future adversaries certain that Russia is prepared to use nuclear weapons.
Karaganov's views are closely monitored by Western security experts as indicators of Russian strategic thinking. While his opinions do not reflect official policy, the Kremlin has allowed him to share these views in influential forums and directly with President Vladimir Putin.
