The Congress in Maharashtra on Wednesday branded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as 'anti-reservation,' following the BJP's criticism of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's quota comments made in the US.
Speaking to reporters, state Congress president Nana Patole accused the BJP of distorting Gandhi's remarks on reservations. Gandhi had stated that the Congress would consider scrapping reservations when 'India is a fair place,' eliciting backlash from the BJP.
Patole criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis, emphasizing that they should better understand issues before commenting. He alleged the BJP's misinterpretation of Gandhi's comments and highlighted the RSS's opposition to the Constitution and reservation system. Patole defended Gandhi's pro-reservation stance and accused the BJP of pursuing political interests through misrepresentation.
