The ruling BJP in Haryana is experiencing increasing internal strife over poll ticket distribution. Party leader Karan Dev Kamboj suggested that the rebellion could have been averted if Chief Minister Nayab Saini had more influence in the allocation process. Senior leader Ram Bilas Sharma independently filed his nomination papers from Mahendragarh amidst fears he might not be fielded by the party.
The disturbances follow the resignation of party leader Kehar Singh Rawat after being denied a ticket, and another leader, Zile Ram Sharma, expressing his discontent for the same reason. Further adding to the internal chaos, Union minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh recently claimed that people want him to be the chief minister.
These events come as the BJP faces a robust challenge from a resurgent Congress in the upcoming assembly polls. Despite the chaos, CM Nayab Saini is the party's chief ministerial candidate for the elections. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.
