Election Commission Bans Exit Polls for Upcoming J&K Assembly Elections
The Election Commission has banned exit polls during the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The prohibition covers print, electronic media, and any other form of dissemination during specified times. Violators face up to two years' imprisonment or fines.

In a move to ensure a level playing field, the Election Commission has banned the release of exit polls during the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. This measure is part of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The ban will be in effect from the start of polling on September 18, 2024, until half an hour after the conclusion of voting on October 5, 2024. During this period, no exit polls can be conducted or published by any media outlet, according to the official notification.
Violators of this rule could face imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. The restriction also applies to the display of any election matter on electronic media during the 48-hour window before the end of polling.
