Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday slammed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his recent comments on reservation, saying these remarks have exposed the 'real face' of Gandhi and the Congress party. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis alleged that Gandhi's statements reveal a contradiction in his stance on the Constitution and reservations.

'The statement given by Rahul Gandhi abroad has revealed the real face of him and the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi talks about saving the Constitution here and talks about ending reservations there. Congress has never given respect to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar or the Constitution,' Fadnavis said. He further accused the Congress of historically conspiring to prevent Ambedkar from entering the Lok Sabha.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also criticized Gandhi, calling his views reflective of a 'petty mentality' and accused Congress of habitual politics based on religion and caste. On September 9, Rahul Gandhi suggested the Congress party might scrap reservations when India becomes a 'fair place,' a statement made during his interaction with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Gandhi reiterated the necessity of a caste census, highlighting that 90 percent of the country's population, including OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis, lack proper representation. 'There's an elephant in the room. When we talk about the capture of institutions, businesses, and the media, the elephant in the room is that 90 percent of India--OBCs, Dalits, Adivasis--aren't even part of the game,' Gandhi said while advocating for defending the Constitution and holding a caste census.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the chorus of criticism, accusing Gandhi of habitually aligning with forces that seek to divide the country. Shah emphasized that the BJP would not allow anyone to abolish reservations or compromise national security, branding Gandhi's statements as indicative of divisive policies. (ANI)
