Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he plans to establish a government efficiency commission headed by billionaire supporter Elon Musk if elected on Nov. 5. This announcement, part of a wide-ranging speech at the New York Economic Club, outlines his economic vision for the United States and marks the first time Trump publicly endorsed the commission.
For the first time, Trump revealed that Musk has agreed to lead the commission, which would develop a plan to eliminate 'fraud and improper payments' within six months of its formation. 'I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms,' Trump stated.
Musk, in a podcast on Aug. 19, confirmed discussions with Trump and expressed his interest in serving on the body. 'I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises,' Musk posted on X. Trump's speech also highlighted prominent business leaders in attendance, including JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman.
