Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed on Thursday his plan to form a government efficiency commission, led by billionaire Elon Musk, if he wins the Nov. 5 election. This marks the first public endorsement of the idea, which Trump has been discussing privately with his aides.

Trump's speech at the New York Economic Club highlighted his intention for the commission to conduct a thorough financial and performance audit of the federal government. Musk confirmed his interest in heading the body, stating he looks forward to the opportunity to serve America.

During his speech, Trump acknowledged prominent business leaders in attendance, including JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman. On the campaign trail, Trump has frequently blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for rising prices, although recent polls show his advantage on economic issues is narrowing.
